Cosplay Armor RTV Molds as Two-Part Props | RUUIPON

A cosplay-armor RTV mold is a keyed two-part (or a glove plus jacket) you dump EVA slurry, resin, foam, or thermoplastic into — not a one-piece sock you invert through a breastplate undercut. Run the RUUIPON Mold Structure Decision: if it is not a flat back, and the undercuts will not peel safely, you want a designed split or a plug. Large wet dumps still want a mother mold. "Make it 10A so it peels" is how you oval a chest plate and tear a lip. Actor-safe edges belong on the *dump* drawing (radius, no needle tips) and on the master, not as a Shore number.

Cosplay armor silicone molds: a two-part prop tool, not a one-piece peel

RUUIPON pours prop tools in Bao'an, Xinhe Blvd, Shajing, since 2018. Prototype is 3–7 business days after CAD lock. Production is MOQ 20 pieces per design — twenty of a pauldron SKU, not twenty full suits unless that is the PO. Simple 3D is USD $50 when that CAD scope applies. Mix 1:1 or 10:1; platinum shrink typically about 0.1–0.3%. Steel/LSR *parts* (a wearable silicone garment from a cold-runner) are a different plant: wydsilicone.com. Figurine cousin: custom figurine molds. Split: split mold.

Does not apply when you wanted vacuum-formed PETG over a buck with no rubber, when the armor is a food chocolate "helmet," or when you needed an LSR skin as the costume. We would not quote a heated steel cavity as a cosplay block. No child-sexualization, no weapon-function claims — tooling for a prop shape.

Masters: 3D print, carved foam, or an existing helmet

EVA foam armor you already built can be the master if you seal it. Open-cell foam drinks platinum; heat-sealed or coated EVA can work after a slug. SLA/FDM masters follow their own seal rules. A real ABS helmet you do not own the IP to is not a master we will copy — send your art.

Dump families:

  • EVA / foam clay / Worbla-style sheet over a buck: sometimes you need the rubber as a *press* or a *drape form*, not a closed block.
  • Resin / PU for rigid plates: two-part block, sprue on a hidden land, jacket if wet kilograms.
  • Foam injection / mix: expansion pressure is hydrostatic plus more — jacket, keys, clamps.

Keys on the split must survive a convention-season recast. Registration pins in a jacket are a cousin page; molded keys in the rubber are the default.

The photo that would prove an armor spec: both halves open, keys, thickness map, edge radius called in millimetres, a witness plate still on the sprue. A worn costume on a stage does not prove the tool.

Actor-safe edges are CAD, not durometer

A 0.2 mm knife lip will cut a neck whether the rubber is 10A or 40A. Radius the master. We will not "make the silicone softer" as a safety substitute. ISO 3302-1 M2 is a rubber class on the dump article if you spec it — still not a costume safety cert, and we will not invent one.

IP: we need your CAD, your sculpture, or your sealed print. We would not copy a competitor's screen-used piece from a photo set and call the $50 CAD a license.

Vac-form bucks are a parallel path: you might only need RTV as a *drape* over a split buck, then pull PETG. Say that on the RFQ so we do not build a closed PU block you never wanted. The rubber still needs a sealed master and a jacket if you press, not a raw foam brick.

Convention-season recasts should come from the sealed master and the jacket CAD, not from a stretched first skin that already ovaled. Write who stores the jacket. A tooling charge is not unrestricted ownership of that shell.

Failure: oval breastplate from a one-piece peel

Symptom: plate that was symmetric on the master comes out egg-shaped; lips tear at the arm hole.

Cause: one-piece glove inverted through an undercut; no jacket on a wet dump.

Confirm: overlay the dump on the master. If only the dump ovaled, the peel stretched the skin.

Fix: recast as a keyed two-part, jacket on. Do not raise Shore first — a stiff glove still ovals if you invert it through a hook.

Armor habits we would not recommend

We would not recommend a one-piece peel through a breastplate undercut.

We would not recommend skipping the jacket on a PU plate dump.

We would not recommend needle-sharp ears "because the rubber is soft."

We would not recommend sending someone else's helmet and asking us to clone it.

We would not recommend stuffing a full-suit scan into a $50 CAD line.

Worked example: pauldron, 180 mm, posed undercut

Resin pauldron, 180 mm, deep arm-hole undercut. Buyer wanted a 10A glove. First peel ovaled the ridge. We designed a two-part block with keys, sprue on the inner curve, FRP jacket, platinum 1:1. Prototype 3–7 business days after CAD lock. $50 CAD applied because the scan had no shut. Production MOQ 20 of that pauldron design.

Mix-up: costume silicone skin vs RTV tool

A silicone garment from LSR is a *part* at wydsilicone.com. An RTV block is a *tool* you dump into. Related: sculptures/figurines, contact.

What to ask when you're buying armor tools

  • Piece list (pauldron, chest, shin) — each design is its own MOQ 20?
  • Dump: PU, foam, EVA press?
  • Edge radii on the drawing?
  • Your art vs a clone request we will not take?
  • After lock, 3–7 business days, then MOQ 20 / design?

FAQ

Can you make a one-piece silicone mold of a chest plate? If the undercuts will not peel without stretching, no. A keyed two-part is the production path.

Do I need a jacket for foam or PU armor? Wet kilograms and expanding foam want a mother mold. A floppy 10A skin will belly.

Is MOQ 20 a full suit? MOQ 20 is per design. Twenty pauldrons is not twenty helmets. List the pieces.

Will you copy a movie helmet from photos? We need your art or a master you have rights to. Photos-only of a third-party piece is not a $50 CAD license.

How fast is a prototype pauldron? 3–7 business days after CAD lock. USD $50 when we must model. Platinum shrink about 0.1–0.3% after full cure.
