Hot Hong Kong Summer vs Platinum RTV Pot Life | RUUIPON

A 30 °C Shajing afternoon does not give you "faster molds." It eats platinum pot life, climbs vacuum foam early, and gels a 1 kg cup while you are still chasing a serif. TDS work time is usually a small mass at about 20–25 °C. A large cup in a hot room is a different clock. Split the shot, keep unopened kits in the pour-room band overnight, vacuum immediately, pour. Do not add extra B "to keep it flowing." That is off-ratio rubber. Winter is the opposite problem — thick mix, false inhibition. This page is summer only.

Does not apply when the kit is already climbing gel from a bad ratio, when you meant a cold loading-door shop, or when you are dumping epoxy into a finished mold. Food logos still want vacuum even when pot life is short — split cups, do not skip the pot.

Mass, room, and vacuum minutes are the same budget

Start the clock at A meeting B. Vacuum minutes are work-time minutes. In summer the foam climbs fast; if you wait for a phone photo, you pour rope. A 200 g cup may still be honest. A 2 kg cup self-heats and dies. Split. Layer pour in the wet window if the flask needs the mass.

Do not ice the mixed cup. Condensation on the cup wall becomes water in platinum. Chill *unopened* kits into band, not below into a sweat bomb.

Demold still waits on a witness tab. Hot rooms shorten peel too, but a cold metal master can still lag. Do not peel at pot life because the room is hot.

ISO 3302-1 M2 is not a climate class. CAD lock in August still assumes we can schedule a pour in a room we control.

Failure: rope in the cup, craters in the face

Symptom: mix will not level; lid rain; green peel because someone rushed demold to "match" the fast pot life.

Cause: one huge cup; extra B; vacuum too long on a dying mix; peel at work time.

Confirm: 20 g slug in a small cup from the same kit in an AC room. If that slug is fine, mass and climate were the clock.

Fix: split, recast. Do not solvent-thin.

Loaded sag ~0.5–1.5 mm still wants a jacket. Heat does not stiffen 10A.

Summer habits we would not run

We would not recommend extra B to stay pourable.

We would not recommend icing a mixed cup.

We would not recommend peeling at pot life.

We would not recommend skipping vacuum "because there is no time."

A tooling charge is not a climate waiver.

Worked example: 1.8 kg tray, 32 °C bench, rope

24-up pectin tray, 1.8 kg 1:1, buyer mixed one pail at 32 °C, vacuumed until overflow, poured rope, starved a row. Recast as three ~600 g cups, AC pour room, jacket. Prototype 3–7 business days after CAD lock. $50 CAD applied (pitch from photos). Production MOQ 20 of that design. Related: gummy molds.

Hong Kong humidity is a tin story more than a platinum story. Do not switch a food cavity to tin because platinum felt fast. Tin leftover under chocolate is still a no. Platinum in a hot room wants smaller cups, not a catalyst change.

If you mix at your bench without AC, say so on the RFQ so we quote a 1:1 with honest work time or we pour here. A 10:1 small shot on a 32 °C d=1 g scale is a stacked failure (see scale page).

Shipside warehouses in August cook kits. Do not mix the morning a drum sat in a container. Park the kit in the pour room overnight like winter, for the opposite reason: you are cooling into band, not warming.

Split cups still need a wet bond window

Three 600 g cups only work if the first layer is still wet when the second lands. In summer that window is short. Have all three weighed before A meets B on cup one. Do not mix cup three after cup one has skinned. A cold aluminum master in an otherwise hot room is a trap: the face lags, the bulk gels. Warm the master into band.

Jacketed food trays still sag about 0.5–1.5 mm if you skip the jacket in August. Heat is not a mother mold. We would not schedule a 3 kg one-shot logo tray on a 33 °C day at your bench. Night shifts in a closed workshop without AC are summer. Say the hour you will mix. A TDS screenshot from a US winter video is not a traveler. Write mixed-at and poured-at in full so night crew does not read a 12-minute pot life as demold remaining. Three stamps: mixed, poured, not-before peel. Summer only changes the first two. Full cure before a hot dump still sits behind peel.

Mix-up: hotter room means shorter demold I can use

Peel may move. First dump still wants full cure on a hot PU. The other mix-up is a fan aimed at one side of a block making a Shore gradient.

Why is pot life shorter in a Hong Kong summer? Heat and mass. TDS times are small cups at a stated °C.

Can I add extra B to stay liquid? We would not. Off-ratio.

Should I mix in a huge cup so I only degas once? That is how you gel. Split.

Does summer shorten your 3–7 day prototype? No. The calendar is CAD lock. We still control the pour room.

Is tin better in humidity? Tin is humidity-sensitive in another way. We still would not spec tin for food. MOQ 20 per design.
