Custom Silicone Chocolate Mold Manufacturing Guide

A custom chocolate mold starts with the finished chocolate, not with a generic silicone tray.

The manufacturer needs the bar or bonbon geometry, target piece weight where relevant, visible surface finish, artwork, cavity count, filling method and target food-contact market before the master and production mold are finalized.

Send:

  • bar/bonbon/custom shape
  • dimensions
  • target grams
  • logo/artwork
  • surface finish
  • cavity count
  • tray-size limits
  • filling method
  • destination market

Vector artwork or STEP/STP is preferred.

If only a photo/sketch exists, 3D modeling may be required.

Simple 3D modeling is typically around USD 50 when straightforward.

Use target grams + actual chocolate/process as the validation gate.

CAD volume is a design input, not a guaranteed final weight.

Silicone reproduces the master.

For very high-gloss commercial chocolate, rigid polycarbonate tooling may be a better option in some applications.

Review:

  • feature depth
  • line width
  • spacing
  • corner radius
  • draft
  • chocolate thickness around the feature

Possible master routes can include:

  • CNC
  • additive
  • existing physical master
  • hybrid process

Choose based on geometry, finish and accuracy.

Confirm:

  • selected grade
  • intended food use
  • destination market
  • color/formulation if relevant
  • available report scope

Validate:

  • grams
  • release
  • surface
  • logo
  • cavity shape
  • tray handling
  • real chocolate process

After one cavity is approved:

  • set pitch
  • cavity count
  • tray dimensions
  • support
  • handling

Keep:

  • approved revision
  • master/tool record
  • material
  • cavity count
  • approved sample

Can you design the mold from the target chocolate weight?

Yes, but validate final grams with actual chocolate.

Can I approve the logo before the production mold?

Yes.

Can you make a small first production order?

Applicable RTV production can start from 20 molds per approved design.

Does silicone automatically create a glossy chocolate?

No.

Is polycarbonate always better?

No. It depends on the product/process.
