CBD Gummy Mold Manufacturing and Tooling Scope Only

This article is tooling of the mold used to deposit a gummy-shaped piece. It doesn't cover cannabinoid oils, extraction, medical use, or how much of any ingredient belongs in a piece. Rules for cannabinoid-containing foods and ingestibles vary by market. What we ship is a food-contact RTV cavity tray — not a license, not an oil COA, not a label.

CBD Gummy Mold Manufacturing
RUUIPON Shenzhen shop-floor tooling. Not a stock catalog tray.

On that tray, food-contact is still 21 CFR 177.2600 extractives and LFGB/BfR XV on the finished rubber article after post-cure. Chemistry is platinum addition-cure RTV poured against a master and usually jacketed. Tin-cure is out. Piece-weight is cavity volume plus slurry density, which is a mechanical fact, not a dosing instruction.

Scope: the mold, not the filling

Split the RFQ. In scope: cavity CAD, volume, array pitch, dump method, tray stiffness or jacket, wash, platinum food-contact, master, first article, recast. Out of scope for the mold shop: milligrams of any cannabinoid, serving size, medical or wellness claims, import permits, hemp vs cannabis definitions, THC thresholds, novel-food status, and stability of an oil in gelatin.

If you need a cavity that fills to 2.5 g at a measured slurry density, that's tooling. If you need "25 mg per bear," that's formulation — we'll refuse it as dosing advice.

Manufacturing is the same family as other gummy trays: finished master, mold box, platinum RTV pour, jacket, trim, post-cure, volume check. Oil in the slurry may change viscosity and dump stickiness. Treat that as a process note (higher oil, stickier dump, prove on a one-up), not as a reason to advertise a special CBD compound. There isn't a "CBD-grade silicone." Food-contact platinum RTV is the grade. An LSR cold-runner quote is a molded *part* tool.

Fill and dump on an oil-bearing slurry

Lines still deposit, set, and dump. Oil-rich slurries can be more viscous or more lubricating; either can starve ears or smear logos. Prove fill on plant slurry or a viscosity-matched stand-in you accept as mechanical only. Flex dump and polish still beat mystery release. Pitch still copies the depositor. Starch may be rejected for the same hygiene reasons vitamin rooms reject it — that's a hall decision, not a cannabinoid endorsement.

Don't ask us for cycle times, dump counts, or lab "CBD resistance" numbers. If the slurry attacks the rubber, that's a plant trial on the actual mix. Kitchen RTV repairs on jackets are still forbidden.

Common mix-up: 177.2600 as approval of the food

A lot of RFQs treat a passed rubber flask as "FDA approved CBD molds." In the shop that usually means you've mixed extractives on a repeated-use rubber article with legality of a cannabinoid food. 21 CFR 177.2600 is US extractives on the tray. The tray can pass and the food can still be restricted where you sell. We won't put health claims on a cavity drawing, print milligrams into CAD, or certify "compliant CBD molds." "FDA approved CBD mold" isn't a sentence we'll write.

ISO 10993 and USP Class VI don't replace those flasks. A gummy mold isn't a medical device because the listing title contains "CBD." Plastic trays use plastic files. Starch isn't 177.2600.

Cannabinoid product legality, labeling, and testing of the food change with country, state, and year. We can ask which food-contact markets the tray must enter and which depositor envelope to copy. You and your counsel own the product. Export of the silicone article (4016.99 / 3926.90 with a forwarder) is export of rubber goods, not clearance for a cannabinoid food.

If a market later forbids the food, the trays can still dump pectin candy or a vitamin SKU of the same volume, or they can sit on a shelf. That's a business and hygiene choice. Don't engrave a restricted slogan into the cavity if you want the master to outlive a regulation change.

What to ask when you're buying (tooling only)

  • Cavity volume target and outline — milliliters, not milligrams of an active?
  • Depositor pitch and dump method?
  • Gelatin vs pectin, viscosity notes, oil load as a processing remark only?
  • Array, wash, color, Shore, jacket?
  • 177.2600 extractives and/or LFGB on the tray — not a cover letter "approved for cannabinoid foods"?
  • One-up on the oily slurry before the production array?
  • Who owns the master, and can another SKU of the same volume reuse the geometry?

Prototype discipline is the same as vitamin work. Record viscosity or a flow cup if you have one; don't record milligrams of an active on the mold traveler.

Example

A tooling-only job is a 4×8 platinum RTV tray, 32 cavities at 2.5 ml, Shore 25A in an aluminum jacket, one-up first on the plant's oily pectin, then the array. No milligram callout appears on the master or the PO.

When this article is the wrong conversation

This page is tooling only. If you need legal advice on whether a cannabinoid food may be sold, a milligram dose, an oil COA, medical or wellness claims, or import permits, we will not quote that work. Rules for the finished gummy vary by market. If you need molded silicone *parts*, that's an LSR/HCR parts RFQ. If starch dust is acceptable and the shape prints, a mogul is a process choice, not a legality opinion.

Related reading: vitamin trays (same cavity logic, no actives), material selection, food-contact RTV.

Tooling RFQ — no dosing fields

Copy this. Do not add milligrams of an active.

  • Cavity milliliters or target grams at a measured slurry density (not mg of cannabinoid)
  • Nozzle pitch, dump method, tray size
  • Gelatin vs pectin; oil load as a processing remark only
  • Shore, jacket, color; 177.2600 extractives and/or LFGB on the *tray*
  • One-up on the oily slurry before the production array
  • Master ownership; geometry that another same-volume SKU could reuse

Send grams (or ml + density), slurry viscosity/oil as a process note, nozzle pitch, and tray envelope. Do not send milligrams of an active or a request to stamp "FDA approved CBD." We'll tool the cavity and stop there.

We would not recommend milligrams of an active on the master

This page is tooling only. We would not recommend printing cannabinoid milligrams into CAD, stamping "FDA approved CBD molds," or treating a passed 177.2600 flask as legality of the food. Rules for the finished gummy vary by market. We would not quote extraction, medical claims, oil COAs, or import permits. Oil in the slurry is a process note for dump — not a "CBD-grade" rubber.

Typical shop values: tooling-only cavity tray (no dosing fields)

| Item | Typical shop value | | --- | --- | | Piece-weight target | 4.0 g (cavity volume × measured slurry density; fill-to-brim or fill-to-line stated) | | Outer-row vs center | 3–6% heavy if the loaded tray sags under the nozzles | | Loaded-tray edge sag | 0.5–1.5 mm without a flat jacket | | Cavity Shore | 10A–20A platinum RTV skin + rigid jacket | | Platinum linear shrink | 0.1–0.3% (cut the master so poured pitch lands) | | Mix | Platinum 1:1 or 10:1; there is no CBD-certified rubber | | Traveler | Viscosity / oil as processing remarks only — never milligrams of an active |

Caption these as typical shop values, not a measurement on your PO.

FAQ

Does this gummy need a special silicone compound? No. Use food-contact platinum RTV, post-cured, tested as the article under 21 CFR 177.2600 extractives and/or LFGB/BfR XV. Oil in the slurry is a fill-and-dump trial, not a marketing grade. There isn't CBD-certified rubber.

Can the mold shop tell us how many milligrams to put in each cavity? No. That's dosing advice and formulation. We can hold milliliters. Your formulator converts density and assay. Rules for the finished product vary by market.

Is 21 CFR 177.2600 an approval of a cannabinoid gummy? No. It's a US regulation for extractives from repeated-use rubber food-contact articles. Keep that file separate from food legality.

Should we use a starch mogul for these SKUs? Only if hygiene and geometry allow starch. Many rooms that also run vitamin or oil-bearing slurries prefer reusable RTV or plastic trays. That's a process choice, not a legality opinion.

Will you print a leaf logo in the cavity? As artwork, if it fills and dumps. A logo is geometry. It isn't a health claim, a dosage mark, or a substitute for labeling. Hairline leaves fail the same way hairline serifs fail: they don't dump.
