Flash on a two-part RTV figurine mold is resin (or plaster, or PU) that squeezed the split land and cured as a film on the seam. It is not HCR flash on a steel shut-off, and it is not a "zero-flash like injection plastic" promise. You design where the seam sits, how wide the land is, how the keys register, and whether the dump is packed or poured. Then you either trim every part, hide the seam in a hairline or a belt, or move the split. Asking for an invisible one-piece glove on a deep undercut mascot is how you tear a face instead of trimming a film.

RUUIPON cuts those splits in Bao'an, Xinhe Blvd, Shajing, since 2018. Mix is 1:1 or 10:1 by weight. Prototype is 3–7 business days after CAD lock of the split, not of a pretty STL. Does not apply when the object is an open-back magnet or a flat-back badge — that is not a split. It also does not apply to a glove mold you still peel in one piece. Food chocolate figurines still want platinum, not tin, and still want a named seam.

Put the seam where a knife can reach and a camera cannot

The RUUIPON Mold Structure Decision still gates the tool: flat back → open-back; undercuts that peel → glove; if they will not peel → two-part / plug / core. Once you are in two-part, the seam is a drawing line. Hide it under hair, a belt, a base rim, or a painted panel. Do not park it across a cheek if the SKU is a face close-up.

Keys register the jackets so the land closes. Pins in a rigid jacket beat molded nubs in a floppy 10A skin if the dump is heavy. A mis-keyed pour makes a step, not a film — that is offset, and you cannot sand offset the way you trim flash.

Pour too hard or clamp too light and the land opens. Pour too timid and you starve a fingertip. Vacuum-cast resin into the closed tool is a different pressure than a gravity pour. Name the dump on the RFQ so the land width matches.

ISO 3302-1 M2 is a size class on the dump. It does not mean "no seam." Write seam location as a note, not as "precision."

Failure: film on the nose, or a step at the ear

Symptom: thin film along the split; or a visible step where keys did not seat.

Cause: land too narrow for this dump; clamp / rubber band too light; jacket flex; keys packed crushed from shipping; dump too fluid.

Confirm: ink the land, close empty, open. Transfer tells you if the land kissed. A gap on the ink is a clamp or key problem, not a "bad silicone."

Fix: recast the split if the seam is on a cheek you cannot hide. Widen the land or add a jacket if the film is from flex. Do not raise Shore as the first move — a 40A brick on a thin ankle still flashes if keys miss.

Loaded sag of about 0.5–1.5 mm on a large unsupported half is enough to open a land. Jacket the halves.

Splits we would not cut

We would not recommend a face-center split on a portrait SKU so the flask is easier to box.

We would not recommend one-piece gloves "to avoid flash" when the undercut will tear the nose.

We would not recommend shipping keyed halves with keys kissing and no dummy — crushed keys become offset forever. See packing when that page is live.

We would not recommend HCR flash-land language on an RTV RFQ. Different shop, different shut-off.

A tooling charge is not unrestricted ownership of the split CAD. Recasts follow the locked seam unless you pay to move it.

Worked example: 120 mm mascot, seam across the cheek

Resin mascot, 120 mm, buyer STEP with a sagittal split through the face because the box was simple. First PU dumps showed a film across the cheek that paint would not hide. We moved the split to the hairline and backpack edge, recut keys, $50 CAD applied (split was never locked). Prototype 3–7 business days after that CAD lock. Production MOQ 20 of that design. Paint is not a flash strategy. A thin film still reads as a ridge under raking light after primer. If the SKU photographs close, hide the seam or recast it. If the SKU is a tabletop miniature viewed at arm's length, a 0.1-class film you can knock off with a blade may be the cheaper SOP. Write which SKU you are in. ISO 3302-1 M2 will not save a cheek seam in a hero render.

Mix-up: more clamp kills flash

Over-clamp on a floppy half dishes the land and makes a trench, which is worse than a film. Keys plus a jacket plus a sane clamp. The other mix-up is calling offset "flash." Offset is a step from mis-register. Trim does not fix a step.

What to ask when you're buying the seam

  • Show faces vs hide faces, marked on the STEP?
  • Dump chemistry, viscosity, pressure or gravity?
  • Jacket vs block halves?
  • Trim SOP in your shop, or do you need a hidden seam?
  • After CAD lock, 3–7 business days, then MOQ 20 / design?

FAQ

Will a two-part RTV figurine mold have flash? Usually a film on the land if the dump can squeeze. Design the seam and a trim SOP, or hide it.

Can you make it one-piece so there is no seam? Only if the undercuts peel. A torn nose is worse than a hidden seam.

Is flash the same as a step at the ear? No. A step is mis-register. Re-key or recast. Trimming a step leaves a flat.

Does a harder Shore stop flash? Not if keys miss or the jacket flexes. Shore is a peel and tear choice first.

Does moving the split restart the 3–7 day clock? Yes. CAD lock includes the seam. A moved split is a new lock. MOQ 20 per design after the witness.
