A lot of first RFQs come back with a 300-piece floor because the shop priced a steel-path or commodity tray line. If you are launching one branded tray on Shopify, that number is the wrong job. You send a phone photo and a target cavity gram. The reply asks for 300 identical sheets. That shop is not wrong for its line. It is wrong for a brand that still has to lock Shore A, logo depth, and demold after the first 20 pours.

When 20 Is the Right Floor
Use 20 when the shape is the SKU, you still expect a Shore or draft change, and you do not want to finance 280 extra trays while the listing is unproven. After CAD lock we still pour a prototype before you approve the 20.
When 20 Is Too Small
If you already have a locked steel-path cavity count, a weekly depositor calendar, or a buyer who only opens POs at pallet scale, 20 will not feed that line. We will say so on the quote instead of pretending a soft tray is a mogul die.
What to Put on the RFQ
Send pour chemistry, destination market (food docs only if the pour is food), cavity grams, logo mm, and whether you have STEP or only photos. Photo path: from photos / sample / 3D. Manufacturer path: custom silicone mold manufacturer.

No. Prototype still comes after CAD lock when the job needs one.
