Mold Storage and Archive Fees, Not Title | RUUIPON

An archive fee is money to keep a named master, jacket, and CAD lock findable so we can recast without remodeling. It is not title. WYD’s ownership-versus-archive article is about steel and FAI packs; this page is the RTV version: plaster or CNC masters, platinum skins, keys, and a folder you can reopen. You can pay storage and still not own the jacket. You can own a master you took home and still have a dead archive because the STEP rev changed in email. Write both on the PO.

Does not apply when you want us to store a used, torn production skin as if it were a master (we recast from the unsanded pattern, not from a dead glove), when you never locked CAD, or when the “archive” is a WeChat photo. Those are new jobs.

What a live RTV archive actually contains

• Last CAD-locked STEP/2D (not the first sketch)
• Master condition: unsanded, sealed, scale note
• Rubber family: platinum vs tin (tin keeps moving in storage; platinum typical shrink about 0.1–0.3% and then sits)
• Shore, mix 1:1 or 10:1, jacket yes/no, key map
• Dump family and whether the well is food (resin wells stay out of food cabinets)
• Last ship qty and any open millimetre change
• Rack location — a fee without a location is a hope

If any of that is missing, the next PO is a CAD conversation, even if you paid storage two years ago. Paying the fee is not unrestricted ownership, and ownership is not a guaranteed recast from memory.

Storage of skins vs storage of masters. Skins age: UV, bags, nicks. We would rather store the master and pour fresh platinum than ship a two-year-old glove as “new.” If you insist on storing skins, say rotation qty and inspection on pull.

Destroy vs keep. NDA or PO can order destroy. Then reorder is a new model — $50 when that scope applies — plus MOQ 20. Do not assume we kept a secret copy after a destroy line.

The photo that would prove a live archive: rack tag, master with scale, lock screenshot, last witness dump. A dusty box with no tag is not an archive.

We will not invent a monthly USD rack price in this article. Ask for the archive line on the quote you actually receive.

Worked example (anonymized)

A resin coaster master sat two years. Buyer ordered “same 20.” CAD on our side was rev A; their email art was rev B with a deeper logo. Archive fee had been paid on A. We would not pour B from A. They locked B, $50 because the logo millimetres had to be rebuilt, 3–7 business days, MOQ 20 of B. The fee bought findability of A, not a free redesign.

How we confirm a master is still the lock

Before a recast cup we check overalls against the STEP, look for sanding you did “to clean it,” and slug platinum on a hidden land if the master is a print that sat in a box. A sealed SLA that yellowed in a window can still inhibit. Archive time is not a cure clock.

If you took the master home, ship it back with the ruler photo you took before it left. Parcel damage is how people argue millimetres that the archive never changed. We would not pour a cracked plaster and call it rev A.

Food-contact recasts need the same platinum path and the same article docs if you still claim 21 CFR 177.2600 / LFGB. A resin dump on that well in year one retired the food cabinet. Storage does not wash that history off. Say the dump on the recast RFQ.

Spare jackets are archive-adjacent. A jacket that still keys is worth storing; a warped plaster mother is not. Rotation qty of *skins* is a production PO, not a storage PO — see the spare-rotation article rather than stuffing extra gloves into a dusty rack and hoping.

One procurement mix-up

“We paid tooling so you store it forever” collapses charge, title, and archive. Three sentences. Tooling charge paid for a pour. Title says who can take the master home. Archive says whether we can find it and recast. The fee is the third sentence.

ISO 3302-1 M2 on an old 2D does not prove the stored skin still meets class. Measure a recast dump, not the yellowed glove pulled off a rack after two idle years. Class is inspected on the new pour.

We would not recommend storing production skins in a hot poly bag and calling them archive.

We would not recommend a destroy clause and a surprise reorder in the same quarter without CAD.

We would not recommend treating a torn glove as a master.

We would not recommend tin food tools in long storage.

• What exactly is stored: master, jacket, skins, CAD?
• How do I trigger a recast, and is there an inspection of the master first?
• Destroy date if I stop paying the fee?
• Who holds title if I take the master home — can you still recast?
• Food vs resin labels on the rack?

FAQ

Does an archive fee mean I own the mold? No. Fee is findability. Title is a different PO line. Charge paid on tooling was never unrestricted ownership.

If I stop paying storage, is the master scrapped? Say so in the PO. Default without a clause is a conversation, not a surprise dumpster. Do not assume keep-forever.

Can you recast from a photo of the old tray? That is a new datum problem, not archive. Ruler in-plane, or $50 CAD, then lock.

Do stored skins count toward the next MOQ 20? Only if they are production-capable of the same lock. Aged tacky skins are not a credit.

Is this the same as WYD steel archive? No. Steel has plates and FAI. RTV has a master and a recast cup. Do not paste a T1 pack onto a glove.
