Stamp the Tool Revision on the RTV Jacket | RUUIPON

A revision mark on an RTV tool belongs on the mother-mold jacket or a flange that never copies into the dump. If you laser "REV-B" into the cavity floor, every resin, plaster, or chocolate piece inherits that string. If you skip the mark entirely, the next recast arrives looking identical to last year's skin and nobody can tell which split CAD it came from. We engrave or pad the jacket exterior, write the same string on the traveler, and keep the cavity empty of letters that are not part of the SKU. Steel tools stamp a cavity insert; that is a different plant.

RUUIPON marks jackets in Bao'an, Xinhe Blvd, Shajing, since 2018. Mix is 1:1 or 10:1 by weight. Prototype is 3–7 business days after CAD lock of the split and the jacket, not after a verbal "looks fine." Production is MOQ 20 pieces per design. Simple 3D is USD $50 when that CAD scope applies. Does not apply when the tool is an open-back tray with no jacket — then the mark goes on a tab or the reverse face, still off the dump. It also does not apply to a food logo that *is* the SKU; that logo is art, not a traveler rev. Do not treat ISO 3302-1 M2 as a revision system.

Park the string where a dump cannot copy it

The RUUIPON Mold Structure Decision still gates the tool: flat back → open-back; peelable undercuts → glove plus jacket; if they will not peel → two-part / plug / core. Once a jacket exists, the outside of that shell is the writing surface. Fiberglass, plaster bandage, and a printed shell all take a mark. A floppy 10A skin does not hold a crisp engrave and will print it if you cut the well.

Useful string, typical shop habit: design ID, rev letter, date of CAD lock, cavity count if the jacket is a family. Example shape: FIG-120 / REV-C / 2026-04-11 / 1-up. We would not invent a lab number or an ISO certificate into that string. The traveler carries the same line so a recast in 2027 can match.

If the jacket is two halves, mark both. Operators swap shells. A Rev-B male against a Rev-A female is a step at the land, and you will argue it is flash.

The photo that would prove the mark: jacket exterior with the string, cavity floor empty, millimetre scale, traveler in the same frame. A beauty shot of the dump with "REV-B" on the belly is the failure photo.

Food cavities stay dry. We would not grease a jacket so a stamp ink transfers. No tin under chocolate; the rev conversation does not change the catalyst.

Failure: Rev-A skin in a Rev-B crate

Symptom: first dump after a recast shows a moved seam, or a logo depth that does not match the signed witness.

Cause: jacket marked, skin not tied; or skin recast from an older master while the jacket kept the new letter; or the string sat in the well and became part of the SKU.

Confirm: read the jacket, read the traveler, overlay the locked STEP. Do not argue from the dump alone.

Fix: recast the skin to the locked jacket, or recut the jacket to the locked skin. Do not "just engrave over" a plaster shell that already locates the old split. Loaded sag of about 0.5–1.5 mm on an unmarked floppy half is a separate jacket problem — add the shell, then mark it.

A tooling charge is not unrestricted ownership of the rev CAD. Recasts follow the locked string unless you pay to move it.

Marks we would not cut

We would not recommend laser-etching the rev into a chocolate or gummy well so receiving can "see it on every piece."

We would not recommend a Sharpie-only mark on a plaster jacket that will be handled with wet gloves. Ink walks. Engrave or pad, then photograph.

We would not recommend one letter on the male and a different letter on the female because "we ran out of space."

We would not recommend putting a factory ISO number on the jacket as if it were a part cert. Our shop QMS language lives on the sister parts plant when it applies; this page is an RTV jacket string.

Worked example: 180 mm mascot, Rev-B seam, Rev-A shell

Resin mascot, 180 mm, keyed two-part, fiberglass jacket. Buyer signed Rev-A in March. In June they moved the seam off the cheek (new CAD lock, $50 CAD applied because the split was never in the original STEP). Prototype 3–7 business days after that lock. The recast skin shipped in the old Rev-A jacket because the shell still fit the flask. First PU dump showed a 0.4 mm step at the ear. Fix: new jacket marked MAS-180 / REV-B, both halves, traveler matched, dummy in the cavity for the carton. Production MOQ 20 of that design. Related: printed jacket shell.

Mix-up: cavity engraving is traceability

Traceability for a mold tool is the traveler plus a mark the dump does not copy. A string in the well is art. The other mix-up is treating a steel cavity stamp SOP as the RTV SOP. Steel inserts live on wydsilicone.com; rubber skins recast and the jacket is what survives the recast.

What to ask when you're buying the mark

  • Jacket material (FRP, plaster, printed shell) and which face is the writing surface?
  • Design ID and the rev letter you want locked, not "latest"?
  • Family mold: one string per cavity or one string per jacket?
  • Food vs craft — no grease, and no tin if the dump is chocolate?
  • After CAD lock, 3–7 business days, then MOQ 20 / design?

FAQ

Where should the revision sit on an RTV mold? On the jacket exterior, a flange, or a reverse tab. Never in a well that copies onto the dump.

Can you laser the rev into the cavity so every casting is marked? Only if that string is part of the SKU art you signed. A traveler rev in the well is a defect we would recast.

Do both jacket halves need the same letter? Yes. Mixed letters are a mixed split. Operators will close the wrong pair.

Does a new rev restart the 3–7 day clock? Yes. CAD lock includes the split and the jacket mark. A moved seam is a new lock. MOQ 20 per design after the witness.

Is the tooling charge ownership of the rev CAD? No. You buy the locked tool and the right to recast to that string unless the PO says otherwise. Ask if you need the STEP.
