A 3D-printed jacket is a mother mold you can put bolts, bushings, and unique keys into in CAD, then print as a shell around a platinum glove. It is not the master (the master copies the dump). It is not an LSR steel tool. Print wins when the glove will recast onto the same register twenty times and you want the pin circle to repeat. Print loses on huge irregular statues (bandage or FRP) and on dishwasher food lines (a chocolate tray still wants a board, a dry well, no grease, no tin). Wall the shell thick enough that it doesn't oil-can; a 1 mm decorative print is a hat, not a jacket.

Does not apply when the print *is* the master you will pour platinum against (seal/inhibition page), when you wanted FDM as a cheap flask, or when you plan to heat the shell like an LSR cavity. Never "LIM hot tool."
CAD the mother the way you CAD the split
Keys and dowel holes belong in the same model as the cavity envelope, offset for the glove thickness. If you print a pretty shell and then drill it, you are back to the pin-through-skin problem. Unique pip so 180° off is impossible. Split the printed mother on the same land as the rubber.
FDM is porous: seal if the dump is vacuum-cast, or the shell will breathe bubbles onto the dump. SLA can inhibit a *new* platinum pour if you use the print as a master; as a jacket against already-cured rubber, inhibition is less of a face issue, but uncured resin on the shell can still tack a glove. Post-cure and wash the print.
Run Structure Decision: flat back → open-back, printed carrier only if sag or a lid needs it. Else two-part / plug. Large wet dump → mother; print if the envelope fits the printer, FRP if it doesn't.
ISO 3302-1 M2 is a dump class, not an infill percent.

Print as jacket versus print as master
Jacket: the dump never sees the print. Master: the dump's tool copies the print, so layer lines, leach, and inhibition are cavity problems. Don't mix those RFQs. A sealed SLA master plus a printed jacket can be the same PO, two roles.
Food chocolate masters we still want CNC or a sealed, proven path — then an open-back tray, not a printed pressure lid.

Worked example (anonymized)
PU dice, two-part platinum ~20A, buyer printed a 2 mm decorative shell that flexed in the pot. We thickened the jacket in CAD ($50), added dowels and a unique pip, reprinted, recast skins onto it. Witness at their pot psi inside a rated vessel. MOQ 20. No food on the PO.
Offset, glove thickness, and why a pretty cup fails
The inner surface of the printed mother should be the outer surface of the seated glove, not a copy of the cavity. Offset by the skin thickness you actually pour — a 10A–20A glove is not a theoretical 1 mm film. If the print is tight, operators grease. Food: we would not. Recast the shell with a real offset ($50 when that CAD applies) and keep the well dry.
FDM layer lines on the *seat* can print through a thin glove into a wet dump as a ghost texture. Sand or coat the seat, or print the inner face at a finer pitch. Don't sand so far you break the offset.
Vacuum-cast dumps: seal the print. Unsealed FDM breathes. SLA jackets still want a wash so residual resin doesn't tack the glove. Platinum shrink of the skin stays about 0.1–0.3%; the print's own shrink is a printer conversation, not a rubber TDS.
A chocolate open-back almost never needs this hardware. If sag is 0.5–1.5 mm, a board usually beats a printed coffin lid.
One procurement mix-up
Sending an FDM "jacket" that is actually a second master-shaped cup with no offset for glove thickness. The glove then doesn't fit, so someone greases it. We would not grease a food well to force a fit. Offset the shell; recast if needed.

Rotation still applies: two gloves, one printed mother. MOQ 20 is per design of the skin, not per printed hat.

FAQ
Can I print the jacket in PLA and the master in SLA? Yes, different jobs. Seal the master for platinum. Post-cure both. Don't put PLA crumbs in a food well.
Does infill percent replace wall thickness? No. Oil-canning is a wall-and-rib problem. We would not spec 10% infill as a pot jacket.
Will a printed jacket yellow in a window like clear RTV? The print may fade; the rubber yellows on its own page. Store both dark. Food trays still don't live on a sill.
If CAD is locked for the cavity, is jacket CAD extra? USD $50 when that jacket scope applies. Cavity lock ≠ jacket lock.
Can the printed shell be the food-contact surface? No. The platinum cavity is. Print stays behind the glove, dry well, no tin.
