Gummy Mold Tooling Costs Without Fake Dump Lives

Gummy mold tooling cost is master, jacket, cavitation, and 177.2600 extractives on the RTV article. Ignore printed dump lives. Quote from a pitch drawing.

Gummy Mold Tooling Costs Without Fake Dump Lives

If you're asking what gummy mold tooling costs, you're paying for the master, the RTV pour, the jacket, the array, and the food-contact file — not a cartoon on a price list.

Gummy Mold Tooling Costs
RUUIPON Shenzhen shop-floor tooling. Not a stock catalog tray.

This page names cost drivers you can put on an RFQ. It doesn't print dollar amounts, dump lives, or "typical" piece prices. Those lie across countries and master classes. Platinum RTV one-up versus a jacketed production tray, dual-pour, hybrid frames, and 21 CFR 177.2600 extractives / LFGB labs all change the quote. Starch mogul stamps are a different cost stack. Ask for a quote against a print, not against this article.

What you're paying for

CAD freeze (volume, dump, pitch) if we have to model from art; the master (CNC vs SLA, logo complexity, texture); cavitation (more cavities is more pattern time and a harder tray); jacket / dual-pour / insert frames; first-article inspection (pitch, volume map, flatness); article tests; spare trays as production goods, not free samples. You don't pay us for formula development. If a quote bundles gummies and masters, split it.

Tool ownership is a cost term. Customer-owned master has a line. Shop-owned master is amortized somewhere — find it. Paying a tooling charge isn't unrestricted ownership.

A one-up or two-cavity platinum RTV sample is a design cost: fast geometry proof, cheap or no metal. Right spend before a 40-cavity master. Wrong spend as a production fleet. Skipping the one-up to "save" is how you recut the pattern. Put a revision clause in the PO so v2 is priced as a change.

Common mix-up: dump life as a price line

A lot of RFQs treat "50,000 dumps" or "FDA approved" as upgrades you can buy. In the shop that usually means you've paid for a slogan. Gel, dump temperature, and wash own life. 177.2600 is extractives on the article, not an approval stamp. "CBD" in the title doesn't change the platinum tray — don't pay a slogan. Medical-grade as a food-contact substitute is the wrong file and extra money, and you still need extractives.

Drivers that actually move tooling money: array size and pitch precision; logo and texture; dual-pour or hybrid carriers; family face sets sharing one envelope; thick jackets that change post-cure and specimen identity; color count (each pigment can be a new article test); vitamin piece-weight maps. Drivers that shouldn't: a Shore copied from Amazon kitchen trays; fake cycle-life upgrades.

Reject or question: dump counts as a warranty; one line "gummy mold" with no cavity count; tin-cure assumed; tests on a spatula; HS or freight guessed as a huge lump without a packing plan (4016.99 / 3926.90 is classification talk). Release agents, slurry, and depositors are plant costs. Don't hide them in the master.

Annual gummy impressions (order of magnitude) inform whether an SLA master and a modest tray fleet suffice, or whether a CNC master and a larger spare fleet make sense. That's class thinking applied to the pattern, not a printed rubber life. A startup vitamin brand with one SKU should pay for CAD + one-up + a small array, not a 60-cavity hybrid on day one. A co-packer with a locked mascot and a named depositor should pay for the production envelope and spares. Starch vs RTV vs PC dwarfs Shore A.

Internal cost buyers forget: engineering hours to freeze milliliters, a dump trial in the plant, QC time on the volume map. A cheap tool that consumes two engineers for a month isn't cheap. Specify post-cure in the PO so the cheap bid can't omit it.

What to ask when you're comparing two quotes

  • Same print: cavities, nozzle pitch, process, Shore or dual-pour, test scope, ownership, spare trays?
  • One-up included, or are we jumping to 40 cavities?
  • 177.2600 extractives and/or LFGB named, on this article?
  • Recast of the RTV face: included or extra?
  • Master CNC vs SLA, jacket material?
  • Cadence of annual dumps as a *planning* figure, not a warranty?

Example

Vitamin startup: 2-cavity platinum RTV one-up at 2.0 ml, then a 24-cavity Shore 25A jacketed tray on the same master — not a 60-cavity hybrid on day one. Co-packer with a locked mascot: production envelope and spares on a CNC master. Same shop, different tool class.

When this cost memo is the wrong spreadsheet

If you're buying finished gummies from a co-packer, their "mold cost" may be amortized into candy — audit volume, don't assume it's your 2.0 ml cavity. If starch is the process, you're costing stamps and starch handling, not RTV jackets. LSR/HCR *part* tools are a different steel stack. We won't list a typical price here because cavitation, tests, and country move the number more than a blog should guess.

Cost RFQ (the print checklist)

  • Target grams / ml, nozzle pitch, tray size, cavity count
  • One-up yes/no; production array size
  • Platinum RTV + jacket vs PC vs starch
  • Food-contact methods named
  • Ownership + recast
  • Spare-tray count
  • Formula family only as dump/fill notes

Send grams, formula family, nozzle pitch, and tray envelope. Two shops quoting that print are comparable. Two shops quoting "a bear" aren't. We'll split master, pour, jacket, labs, and recast so you can see where the money went.

We would not recommend dump life as a price line

We would not recommend buying "50,000 dumps" or "FDA approved" as upgrades, or a slogan tax because the listing title contains CBD. We would not list a typical USD invoice here — cavitation, tests, and country move the number more than a blog should guess. We would not skip the one-up to "save" and then recut 40 cavities. Specify post-cure in the PO so the cheap bid can't omit it.

Typical shop values: startup vs co-packer tool class (not a price)

| Item | Typical shop value | | --- | --- | | Piece-weight target | 4.0 g (cavity volume × measured slurry density; fill-to-brim or fill-to-line stated) | | Outer-row vs center | 3–6% heavy if the loaded tray sags under the nozzles | | Loaded-tray edge sag | 0.5–1.5 mm without a flat jacket | | Cavity Shore | 10A–20A platinum RTV skin + rigid jacket | | Platinum linear shrink | 0.1–0.3% (cut the master so poured pitch lands) | | Mix | Platinum 1:1 or 10:1; post-cure is a PO line, not a favor | | Not in the quote | Fake USD invoices, dump-life warranties, SGS report numbers |

Caption these as typical shop values, not a measurement on your PO.

FAQ

Why won't you list a typical gummy mold price? Because cavitation, master class, tests, and country move the number more than a blog should guess. Send a pitch drawing. Two shops quoting the same print are comparable.

Is a one-up wasted tooling if we already know the mascot? If you've never dumped the gel from that cavity, it's insurance against recutting 40 cavities. If you've dumped it on an existing tray, maybe skip. Most new vitamin shapes haven't.

Do LFGB plus 177.2600 double tooling cost? They add lab cost and require a finished, post-cured specimen. They don't double the master. Dual-market trays need both; US-only or DE-only can be one method. Don't buy both as a superstition.

Does more annual gummy volume mean a more expensive mold? It can mean a better master and more spare trays. It doesn't mean a more expensive cartoon. Volume of candy isn't Shore A. It's pattern class and fleet size.

Can we amortize the master into tray piece price? Yes if the PO says shop-owned tool. Then you'll pay it in the tray. Customer-owned is a capital line. Pick one and stop mixing them in email.
