Clear platinum RTV yellows in a window because sunlight is UV, not because you poured UV jewelry resin. Color shift can happen on an unused spare on a sill while the working tool in a dark drawer stays water-white. That is a storage clock, separate from resin attacking the face (etch, tack) and separate from ozone cracks. If you need optical clarity to watch a fill, store dark, don't park the tool on a ledge "to show the brand," and don't spec tin because it "looks antique anyway." Food clear chocolate tools still stay dry: no grease, no tin. Yellow is not a license to oil the well.

Does not apply when the dump is UV resin cooking the face (chemistry etch), when you wanted a grey shop-tint on purpose, or when yellowing is oil bleed. Don't treat "UV stable" marketing as 177.2600.

Window UV versus dump UV versus ozone

Window / skylight / shop LED with a UV tail. Unused spare yellows, face still dry and glossy. Move storage. Recast if clarity is a CTQ.

UV jewelry resin in the well. Used wells tacky or etched; unused wells on the same tool still clear. Change dump or recast; cabinets split from food.

Ozone. Cracks on stretched lips, not a uniform straw color.

Tin leftover. Sour bulk odor, shrink in storage, not a clear-grade conversation. We would not spec tin for food.

Post-cure, tint, and when to give up on "clear"

A quoted post-cure can drop leftover odor; it is not a UV vaccine. If clarity is CTQ, store dark from mix day. A shop-grey tint hides yellow and helps operators see streaks — that's the pigment-in-the-tool page. Don't pigment a watch-the-fill SKU "a little."

Food chocolate that must be watched in a clear well: still atmospheric dump, still no pot, still no grease. Yellowed food tools recast; don't bleach them in a window the other direction.

ISO 3302-1 M2 is a dump class, not a yellowness index. We will not invent a lab delta-E.

Dummy in the well does not block side-window UV on the jacket. Bagging helps dust, weakly helps UV. Dark tote wins.

Showroom sills, LED booths, and the spare-in-the-drawer test

Always run the spare-in-the-drawer test before you recast a "resin-yellowed" tool. If the unused spare on the sill matches the working tool's straw color and unused drawer spare is clear, you own a window problem. If only used wells shifted, you own a dump problem (299/epoxy-life).

Retail display: put the *dump* in the window, not the tool. A yellowed chocolate mold still shouldn't be oiled to "warm up the cocoa color." Recast if water-white is CTQ. Shop-grey tint is allowed when watching the fill is not required.

Clear gloves on statues pick UV on the back as well as the face. Bandage mothers are not UV covers once you demold them for storage. Dark tote, dummy for shape if needed, still no window.

Don't post-cure in a sun box. Quoted post-cure is an oven process when the RFQ asks, not a sill.

CAD $50 if you switch from a watch-fill clear shell to an opaque tray geometry. Tint-only is a mix note. MOQ 20 per design after you pick.

Worked example (anonymized)

Clear platinum chocolate shell, buyer displayed samples on a show-sill. Unused shelf spare yellowed in weeks; drawer spare stayed clear. We recast the display set, wrote dark storage on the traveler, no $50 CAD. Dry wells, no tin. MOQ 20 already on the drawer set.

Shop LEDs over a packing table are usually kinder than a south-facing sill, but a UV-C insect trap over that table is not. Look up before you blame the rubber grade.

Tinted shop-grey tools still belong in the dark; UV cracks and fades pigments too, even if you no longer care about water-white.

One procurement mix-up

Blaming UV resin for a tool that never saw resin, only a window. Charge ≠ a sunlight warranty. Also: asking for a food extraction PDF on a yellowed UV-resin well you want to "wash back" to chocolate. We would not.

FAQ

Will a UV-inhibitor additive in the rubber make a window safe? Don't treat an additive as a sill spec. Store dark. We would not invent a lab number for that additive.

Can I display a clear chocolate mold in retail under LEDs? Some LEDs are kind, some are not. If clarity is CTQ, don't display the tool; display a dump.

Is yellowed clear still food-contact? Yellow is not automatic scrap, but we recast if you need water-white. Cracked or etched is scrap. No grease, no tin.

Does post-cure reverse window yellow? It may drop odor. It will not un-yellow a sill tool as a process we sell.

If I tint the recast grey, do I pay CAD? Usually no. Tint is a mix note. $50 if geometry is still open.
