Where design work is usually needed

Customers often contact us when:

• the product exists only as a rendering
• a physical sample must be copied
• the customer has an STL but no mold split
• logo detail is too fine to demold reliably
• a tray needs a specific piece weight but cavity volume is unknown
• several product sizes need a shared or modular tooling approach
• a prototype needs to be tested before production tooling

These are DFM problems, not just drawing problems.

What we review

The design stage can include:

• finished part dimensions
• cavity volume
• draft
• undercuts
• split line
• silicone thickness
• support shell or frame
• logo depth
• drainage or vent features
• cavity spacing
• tray outer dimensions
• demolding direction

The goal is to make the design manufacturable without changing the product more than necessary.

Starting from photos or samples

A physical sample is often the best reference for fit-sensitive products. If only photos are available, include multiple angles and at least one known measurement.

For symmetrical or simple parts, photos plus dimensions may be enough. For organic surfaces, fitted covers or parts that must match another device, a physical sample or accurate 3D scan is safer.

CAD approval before tooling

We send the critical geometry for confirmation before making the working mold.

For straightforward modeling, design work can often start around USD 50. More complex sculpting, reverse engineering or multi-part assemblies are quoted separately.

Design ownership and files

If your project requires final STEP/STL files, state this before development begins so file deliverables and ownership are included in the quotation.

Prototype first

A design that looks correct on screen can still fail during demolding. We recommend a functional prototype whenever geometry, fit or surface detail carries real risk.
