Readable molded marks start around a 0.3 mm stroke conversation, then dump family moves the floor. Hairline PNGs do not fill. Lock mm before CAD freeze.

The smallest logo that will still read in a dump is a stroke-width problem, not a “crisp PNG” problem. On our Bao'an floor we start a stroke conversation near 0.3 mm, with depth in the same band on many 15–30 g food bars, then we move that floor for resin stamps, ice, and thin-bar wash risk. A 0.15 mm hairline can look expensive in Illustrator and still starve in pectin, chocolate, or PU. Depth without width is a trench the dump will not enter. Width without draft is a tear. Lock both in millimetres before CAD freeze.

This article is the *size* conversation — how small can the mark be and still fill, peel, and remain readable after a few dumps. Depth-as-wash-risk is a sibling page; do not collapse them. Does not apply when the mark is ink or a carton PNG, when you already know the 0.1 mm line will be pad-printed, or when the “logo” is a 12-pixel photo of a competitor bar. We will not freeze rubber from that file.
Small fails in three different ways
Starved fill. The well is sharp; the dump letter is broken. High-pectin gel, thick CP soap, and cold resin skip a stroke that is narrower than it is deep, or simply too narrow for the viscosity. Confirm: raking light on the empty well — complete letter — vs a truncated dump. Fix: thicken the stroke, sometimes *reduce* depth so the well is not a capillary. Harder Shore does not fill a hairline.
Unreadable at arm's length even when filled. A legally required mark that is 2 mm tall on a 12 g piece can fill and still fail a visibility check after temper or a sugar coat. Confirm: photo of the dump at the distance your QC uses, not a macro of the cavity. Fix: enlarge the mark, open counters (A, B, 8), drop ®/™ to a print note if they cannot hold width. This is not a depth-only recast.
Peel damage at the small end. Closed counters and serifs at the size floor tear a 10A–20A lip. Confirm: flap at the counter land, same letters every cavity. Fix: fillet the root, add draft, or move that face off a one-piece glove (Structure Decision: split or plug). Do not “just do 40A.”
Raised in the dump (sunk in the cavity) reads at small sizes if the stroke survives abrasion. Recessed in the dump hides wash from knives and is the usual food-bar start — and it starves first as you go smaller. Pick one on the 2D.
ISO 3302-1 M2 on the tray drawing does not make a 0.15 mm serif fill. It is a rubber class.

The photo that would prove a size call: dump next to a caliper on the stroke, cavity under raking light, QC-distance photo of the same piece. A beauty macro of pull 1 is not that set.
Worked example (anonymized)
A 15 g chocolate bar, buyer art with 0.18 mm serifs and a 0.5 mm depth call. First witness filled the stems, starved the serifs, still “looked logo-ish” in a macro. QC-distance photo failed. We rebuilt the mark at 0.35 mm stroke, 0.4 mm depth, open counters. $50 CAD because the PNG had to be redrawn as vectors with millimetres. Lock, pour in the 3–7 business day window. Second witness read at arm's length. MOQ 20. Harder Shore was never cut.
Dump family moves the floor more than Shore does. A 0.3 mm stroke in couverture on a 20 g bar is a different fill than the same stroke in a 4 g pectin gummy or a UV resin stamp. We would not publish one “minimum logo size” chart as a guarantee. What we will lock is stroke, depth, raised-or-recessed, and a QC-distance photo on the first witness. If that witness starves, we change millimetres, not the rubber family, unless you also asked for a Shore change on the RFQ.
Closed counters at the size floor need a land the rubber can peel. If the land is a knife edge, the first flex tears it and you will call it “too small.” It was too sharp. Fillet the root even when you keep the stroke.

One procurement mix-up
A sharper PNG is not a smaller-capable mold. Bitmaps get traced into trenches. Outlined vectors, stroke in mm, raised or recessed named. “Make the logo pop” is not a size. Tooling charge ≠ unlimited serif experiments after lock.

We would not recommend freezing a 0.15 mm hairline in a food well because the brand book says so.
We would not recommend raising Shore to force fill into a starved stroke.
We would not recommend keeping ® at a size the dump cannot fill.
We would not recommend judging readability from a cavity photo instead of a QC-distance dump photo.

FAQ
Can you mold a 0.1 mm line if the printer can? The master can hold a scratch the dump will not fill. We start a stroke conversation near 0.3 mm and then move it with the dump. 0.1 mm is usually print.
Is smaller OK on resin because it is thin? Thin resin can fill smaller than pectin *if* you vent and pressure-cast. The rubber still has to peel the counter. Send the dump process.
Does ice need a bigger mark than chocolate? Ice is read as a melt. Shallow small marks vanish first. That is a visibility floor, not only a fill floor.
Will ISO 3302-1 M1 let me go smaller? No. Class is a rubber tolerance. It does not wet a hairline.
If you enlarge the mark, is that a new MOQ? After the new CAD lock, production is MOQ 20 pieces per design. USD $50 when we had to rebuild the art into millimetres.
