The useful sample on this site is a working RTV prototype you can dump your real chocolate, pectin, resin, wax, soap, plaster, or concrete into — not a Shore chip in an envelope, and not a leftover tray from someone else’s SKU. You pay for that first tool. The clock is 3–7 business days after CAD lock, not after the first WhatsApp photo. When the witness passes, production is MOQ 20 pieces per design. Simple 3D is USD $50 when that CAD scope applies. Bao’an since 2018.

Does not apply when you already have a locked golden sample and only need recasts (open archive / spare talk), when you only want to feel 15A platinum (ask for a chip, not a cavity program), or when you want us to ship another brand’s tray as “your sample.” We will not copy a third-party tool.

Three things people call a sample

Do not approve production from a chip. Do not ask us to ship another brand’s tray. The prototype should be the same structure as the intended production tool: same split, same jacket rule, same Shore band. A one-piece beauty glove is a bad sample for a keyed two-part you will actually run.

CAD lock means the 2D/3D you signed — millimetres, logo depth, cavity count, parting land. Photos without a scale are not lock. If we must model first, the $50 line applies when that scope applies, and the 3–7 day clock starts when you freeze the model.

Common mix-up: free sample equals free custom mold

A custom master costs NRE. The prototype *is* that first tool. It is not a complimentary Amazon swatch. If you only need to feel Shore, say so. If you need to prove a 12-up pectin tray, that is a prototype PO. The purchasing version is signing a beauty render, then multiplying to twenty without a real-material dump. Water-fill sign-off is how you pay twice.

Tooling payment on the sample does not, by itself, give you unrestricted ownership of the master. Write who keeps it if you stop before the twenty.

Worked example (anonymized)

A craft brand asked for “samples of the mascot mold.” We poured one keyed two-part prototype (the hook cannot one-piece peel), dumped their epoxy at the stated peak °C, wrote tear/pass on the bail, then multiplied to MOQ 20 of the 6-up production skin after lock. A Shore chip would have approved nothing. Custom 3D was USD $50 because they had photos plus a caliper length, not STEP.

What to ask when you are buying a sample

• Is this a working prototype mold or a material chip?
• Same split / jacket / cavity count as production?
• Who dumps the real material, and what is the pass/fail sentence?
• Is the sample fee credited, and does it include the master?
• May we copy this, or is it another customer’s IP?

What “after CAD lock” does to the calendar

Buyers hear “3–7 days” and start the clock at the first email. We start it when millimetres, logo depth, cavity count, and the parting land are frozen on a model you signed. A photo pack can start DFM the same day. It does not start the prototype clock. If CAD scope applies, the $50 model happens first; you mark it; *then* the rubber clock runs.

Production after a pass is not another 3–7 days for twenty trays. The sample is one (or a few) tools. The twenty is a production pour with QC and pack — plan that as a separate window on the PI, usually weeks not days, depending on cavity count. We would not compress both clocks by dumping water on day two and calling it food-ready.

The photo that would prove a sample is the prototype on the bench next to the signed 2D, plus your dump in the cavity, plus the written pass/fail. A grey render in a WeChat thread is not a sample.

FAQ

Is the prototype free if I later order 20? Ask us to write credit on the PI. Do not assume a custom master is complimentary.

Can I approve from photos of your other molds? No. That is not your CAD and it may not be yours to copy.

What if the sample fails? Revise the master or the structure, then a new witness. Do not multiply a fail to twenty.

Does CAD lock start when I send a photo? No. It starts when millimetres are frozen on a model you signed. Unscaled photos wait on the $50 3D when that scope applies.

Can I skip the sample because I have used silicone trays before? You have used *a* tray. This cavity still needs a real dump. Skip only if you already have a locked golden sample of *this* design.
