If you're asking how long a custom RTV food mold lasts on the shelf, you need two clocks. On the bench, platinum RTV A/B kits and tin-cure kits have compounder dates because catalyst and humidity are real. In the warehouse and on a bakery rack, a cured cavity ages by heat, light, oil, ozone, and mechanical crease of the jacket — not by a printed "ten years" on a carton. Don't invent a dump life. Don't treat a kit date as the tray date. Food-contact identity (21 CFR 177.2600, LFGB / BfR XV) is about the article you ship, not a calendar charm.

Kit clock vs cured-cavity clock

Platinum RTV kits: follow unopened and opened dates, storage temperature, mix hygiene. Expired kit can still pour a pretty cup and then fail volatiles or tear. Tin-cure kit life is humidity and ratio; that clock is irrelevant to a muffin program if tin-cure was the wrong food path anyway.

Once vulcanized and post-cured, the cavity doesn't "expire" on the kit's date. It can still be ruined in a month in a hot window, folded so the jacket creases, or stacked so keys take a set. Tear and hardness drift after heat-age screen compounds; they aren't a printed life. Re-testing an aged lot for 177.2600 is unusual; it's justified if the warehouse baked the parts. Sensory can fail after storage if nested post-cure trapped volatiles — that's a process miss discovered late.

Common mix-up: the LSR kit date as the muffin birthday

A lot of cartons (and some buyers) treat a cured muffin tray as expired when the kit date passes. In the shop that usually means you've mixed an uncured-chemistry clock with a cured-article abuse problem. The vulcanized, post-cured tray is a different object.

  • Are you dating the kit or the cured cavity?
  • Storage condition: cool, dark, uncreased jacket, away from UV and tin benches?
  • Fail definition: crease, cut face, oven beyond grade, odor?
  • Does 177.2600 "expire" on that date, or only when compound/color/pour changes?
  • Recast plan if a seasonal Bundt sits 11 months at the bakery?

A banquet pastry team parks an 8-cavity 180 mm platinum RTV Bundt in a drawer under a mixer for 11 months. It fails on the first banquet. That's a crease and a dirty jacket, not a chemistry birthday. Same storage rules as the warehouse: uncreased, dark, clean, uncut. Unopened kits that sat in a hot customs yard are the other fail — don't pour food SKUs from baked drums to "use it up."
