That means logo DFM should be reviewed as a small mechanical geometry problem-not simply "engrave the file 0.5 mm deep."

Before modeling, define one thing clearly:

Should the finished casting have a raised logo or a recessed logo?

The mold geometry is the negative of that decision.

The mold cavity contains a recessed logo pocket.

Risks:

  • deep pockets can trap air;
  • narrow strokes may not fill;
  • sticky or viscous material may bridge corners;
  • cleaning can be difficult on food applications.

The silicone mold contains raised logo features.

Risks:

  • small silicone letters become thin islands;
  • islands can bend or tear during demolding;
  • tall narrow features can distort;
  • aggressive cleaning can damage them.

Neither is universally easier. The casting material decides.

Stroke width cannot be separated from logo size

A 0.4 mm stroke can be robust on a small shallow mark and fragile on a deep tall island.

Review the ratio between:

  • stroke width;
  • relief depth;
  • corner radius;
  • feature spacing;
  • total logo size;
  • casting viscosity;
  • silicone Shore;
  • demolding direction.

Hairline typography designed for print often needs simplification for molding.

Possible DFM changes:

  • thicken narrow strokes;
  • remove tiny gaps;
  • open counters in letters;
  • soften sharp inside corners;
  • reduce depth;
  • simplify registered marks;
  • use a different font weight while preserving brand identity.

The goal is not to redesign the brand. It is to preserve what remains visible after real molding.

Depth should follow feature width

A narrow letter cut very deep becomes either:

  • a difficult-to-fill trench; or
  • a tall fragile silicone island.

Depth and width should be considered together.

Instead of specifying one universal "logo depth," ask:

Can the feature fill, release and survive repeated demolding at this scale?

Prototype the final size.

A logo that works on a 100 mm soap bar may fail when reduced to a 20 mm gummy.

Corner radius reduces local tear stress

Sharp internal corners can create notch-like stress in the silicone.

Useful DFM changes include:

  • filleting roots;
  • rounding inside corners;
  • avoiding knife-edge serif tips;
  • removing zero-radius transitions;
  • preventing two deep features from leaving a razor-thin silicone web.

These changes can be visually almost invisible while significantly improving mold durability.

Draft still matters on small lettering

Flexible silicone can tolerate low draft better than rigid tooling, but small vertical letters can create high friction and local stretch.

Draft may be introduced on:

  • letter sidewalls;
  • deep logo pockets;
  • emboss islands;
  • tall recessed marks.

The required amount depends on depth, surface finish, casting material and Shore. Do not copy one 1-3° rule into every logo page.

For some shallow marks, geometry can release with minimal visible taper. For a deep narrow logo, a split or shallower relief may be safer.

Keep the logo away from the parting line when possible

A logo crossing a mold seam can create:

  • mismatch through the artwork;
  • flash that is difficult to trim;
  • damaged thin letters;
  • leak path in closed molds;
  • difficult visual QC.

If the product design allows, move the seam to:

  • a backside edge;
  • natural ridge;
  • texture transition;
  • non-branded surface.

When the logo must cross a split, design registration and cleanup intentionally.

The casting material changes what "good logo DFM" means

Pectin gummy

The mass may be sticky and small features can smear during demold.

Chocolate

Surface finish and complete cavity wetting matter; deep narrow pockets can trap air.

Soap

Fresh soap may be softer at demold and deep marks can mechanically lock.

Resin

Fine detail is reproduced very aggressively, including negative undercuts and sharp corners.

Wax

Thin raised details may break if the candle is demolded too early.

A logo file should never be approved without naming the casting material.

Prototype with the final logo size

Do not validate a 40 mm logo and assume a 15 mm version behaves the same.

A proper logo prototype should check:

  • readability;
  • complete fill;
  • surface finish;
  • thin-island integrity;
  • demolding force;
  • air trapping;
  • cleaning;
  • casting breakage;
  • seam relationship.

If multiple sizes are planned, test the smallest/highest-risk size first.

Artwork files the factory actually needs

Preferred inputs:

  • AI / SVG / EPS / DXF vector;
  • outlined fonts;
  • clear "raised" or "recessed on finished product" note;
  • target logo width/height;
  • desired depth or permission for DFM recommendation;
  • position on 3D part;
  • minimum brand elements that cannot change.

A PNG can be used for early review, but tracing introduces interpretation. For a trademarked mark, use controlled vector artwork.
