A 20 g platinum slug on a hidden land of the master is the gate before we weigh a production cup. Mix the same 1:1 or 10:1 you will pour, degas a tiny shot if the grade needs it, butter a non-show face, and wait the scheduled cure. Pass is snap-cured, dry, no grease against the master. Fail is tacky on the print/wood/clay side while the slug's back (air side) is fine. That pattern is inhibition, not "needs more hours." This page is the *coupon protocol* — not the SLA wash/UV/seal essay, not the sticky-face diagnosis overview. Skip the slug and pour a food logo "to see," and you have scrapped a cavity.

Does not apply when the whole mix stays soft (ratio, cold shop, dead kit), when you meant a dump coupon of epoxy, or when the land you slugged is a sealer the logo never got. A pass on the base and a fail in a shadowed undercut is why the land has to represent the face.

Where the 20 g goes

Pick a hidden land that saw the *same* prep as the show face: same wash, same sealer, same handling gloves. The underside of an SLA that was never UV'd is a lying coupon. A sealed flat and a raw counter will disagree.

Mass: about 20 g is enough to feel snap vs tack and small enough that a fail does not eat the kit. You can go a little heavier on a coarse wood grain so pores fill. You cannot slug "a smear" and call it a test.

Control: a second 20 g on clean polypropylene or a known-good cup wall. If both are tacky, the kit or the room is the problem (winter temperature, ratio). If only the master land is tacky, the master is the problem.

The photo that would prove a slug: puck on a hidden land, air side vs master side, millimetre scale, prep notes in frame. A thumbs-up selfie is not pass/fail.

Shadowed SLA well that never saw UV while the base did. Slug the well wall or stop.

Sealer holiday on type. Slug looks good on a filled flat.

Latex fingerprint added after the slug, before the pour. Handle with nitrile.

Sulfur clay smear on the face after a good coupon on the back.

Confirm: do not bake a food cavity to "finish" a fail. Recast from a quiet master.

ISO 3302-1 M2 is a rubber class, not a coupon spec. CAD lock waits on a pass that represents the face.

Tin-cure slugs exist for craft dumps, but a tin coupon does not clear a platinum food path. If the master only "works" with tin, that is a dirty-master tell, not a reason to switch chocolate to condensation-cure. Run the platinum 20 g. If it fails, clean or remodel. Humidity and winter thickness can fake a fail — that is why the PP control sits next to the master land in the same hour.

Do not reuse a slug puck as a Shore A button for a production spec. The puck is contaminated with whatever was on the master. Shore belongs on a dedicated plaque.

Failure: hope pour after a pretty SLA

Symptom: logo wells greasy, sprue snap-cured.

Cause: no slug, or slug on the wrong land.

Fix: $50 remodel when fighting the print is more expensive than a pour-ready master; or finish the print and slug again. We would not ship the tacky well.

Worked example: 20 g pass on the base, fail in the counter

Logo ice master, SLA, buyer slugged the base — snap. We slugged a letter counter — tack. Wash/UV had missed the well. They finished UV, resealed, second slug passed, platinum 1:1 tray. Prototype 3–7 business days after CAD lock. No extra $50 because they kept their print. Production MOQ 20 of that design.

Mix-up: slug = first article dump

The slug tests the *master against platinum*. A first dump tests the *cavity against chocolate or resin*. Passing a 20 g puck does not waive vacuum on the production cup, and it does not waive a jacket on a wet dump. It only says the master is chemically quiet enough to pour.
