Pack RTV Keys So Cartons Do Not Crush Them | RUUIPON

Registration keys on a two-part RTV tool crush if the halves ride the ocean with nubs kissing under carton compression. A crushed key becomes offset flash on every later dump: a step at the ear, a mismatch on a figurine belt. Pack keys so they do not touch — a dummy cast in the cavity, foam in the wells, a rigid spacer, or jacket halves nested without nub-to-nub. Do not rubber-band the split shut "so it does not get lost." Folding a tray is a different failure (crease). This page is the keys.

Does not apply when the tool is a single open-back sheet with no keys. It also does not apply to LSR steel in a crate. Food trays still pack flat; keys are extra on splits.

Dummy, foam, or a jacket that takes the load

A dummy in the cavity holds the shape and keeps keys off each other if the dummy is thicker than the nub height. Foam in each well works when the dummy would stick. A rigid jacket should take carton load, not the 10A nubs. Write which pack on the PO.

Humidity packs and pallets are cousins. A crushed key is mechanical, not moisture. Do not file them as one "shipping claim."

The photo that would prove a key pack: open carton, spacer visible, keys not touching, millimetre scale. A sealed box on a pallet proves nothing.

ISO 3302-1 M2 will not recut a crushed nub. Recast the half. Tooling charge is not insurance; ask your broker about tool value separately.

Failure: step at the seam after one ocean trip

Symptom: first dump after arrival has a step; keys look mushroomed.

Cause: halves banded shut; carton stacked; no dummy.

Confirm: ink the land; keys do not seat.

Fix: recast the keyed half. Do not sand nubs down and "make it work." Offset remains.

Loaded sag ~0.5–1.5 mm is use, not shipping. Do not confuse a dished tray with crushed keys.

Pins in a rigid jacket can replace delicate nubs on a heavy dump. That is a Structure Decision at CAD lock, not a foam choice in the carton. If you already crushed nubs, recast with larger keys rather than packing the damaged pair again. Do not ship the mushroomed pair 'for reference' without a spacer — the second crush is on you. Photograph keys at pack-out if you will claim damage; a closed carton photo is not a key photo.

Mix-up: tight straps mean safer keys

Tight straps crush nubs. Snug the jacket, not the rubber. The other mix-up is a dummy that undercuts and tears the cavity on unpack.
