Color and post-cure change the article. Pigment must sit in the same document chain as the base compound.

Module A: post-cure is compound/process-specific

Some silicone systems and food-contact programs use post-cure to:

  • reduce residual volatiles;
  • stabilize properties;
  • improve odor;
  • prepare representative specimens for food-contact testing.

But post-cure requirements depend on:

  • compound;
  • section thickness;
  • cure chemistry;
  • manufacturer instructions;
  • intended regulatory/test program.

Do not publish one universal "100°C for 4 hours" rule.

The correct instruction should come from the selected material/process specification.

Module B: what post-cure can and cannot prove

Post-cure can be part of a compliant process.

It does not by itself prove:

  • food-contact compliance;
  • absence of all migratable substances;
  • all-color suitability;
  • long-term acidic immersion;
  • oven durability.

Evidence still needs to match the intended use.

Module C: pigment is part of the formulation

For colored food-contact molds, control:

  • pigment/masterbatch supplier;
  • pigment code;
  • lot;
  • loading;
  • compatibility with silicone;
  • food-contact documentation.

Avoid:

  • craft mica;
  • uncontrolled universal pigment;
  • random industrial color paste.

The visual Pantone target is not the regulatory specification.

Module D: color migration / sensory concerns

Depending on use, buyers may evaluate:

  • visible color transfer;
  • odor;
  • taste;
  • extractables/migration;
  • long-term color stability.

A deep red long-term beverage-contact part and a light blue baking tray should not automatically share the same validation assumption.

Module E: process records buyers can request

For higher-control programs, useful records include:

  • material grade;
  • material lot;
  • pigment lot;
  • mix ratio;
  • cure date;
  • post-cure batch record;
  • mold/job ID;
  • release/cleaning status.

These connect the document package to the shipped article.

Module F: natural silicone is not automatically "more compliant"

Natural/translucent material can simplify pigment control.

But it still needs the correct food-contact formulation/process/evidence.

Do not turn "natural color" into a compliance shortcut.
