Custom Silicone Resin Molds: Undercuts & RTV | RUUIPON
Custom resin RTV molds are platinum or named-tin tools with a peel path: glove, split, plug, or core. Jacket wet dumps. Keep food cabinets separate.

A custom silicone resin mold from RUUIPON is an RTV *tool* you pour epoxy, PU, or UV resin into — not a food tray you later "also use for crafts," and not a steel LSR part. Undercuts decide the structure: if the piece will not peel from an open-back skin, you buy a split, a plug, or a core, usually behind a jacket so a 10A–20A glove does not balloon. Bao'an since 2018. Simple 3D is USD $50 when that CAD scope applies. Prototype 3–7 business days after CAD lock. Production is MOQ 20 pieces per design.

Molded silicone *parts* (grips, gaskets, keypads) from heated steel and a cold-runner stay on wydsilicone.com. Don't send a resin-figurine RFQ as a "LIM hot tool."
Does not apply when the dump is chocolate or pectin (different cabinet, different Shore conversation), when you need thousands of identical plastic *parts* from a steel injection tool, or when the master is an unwashed SLA you want us to pour platinum on anyway. We would not.
Resin dumps this shop actually builds tools for
Name the resin family on the RFQ. "Resin" is not a Shore.
| Dump | What the tool has to survive | Structure note |
|---|---|---|
| Epoxy (including some UV) | Exotherm, amine blush, stick on sharp undercuts | Glove or split; named release if the vendor requires it |
| PU / polyurethane | Isocyanate leftovers, often more stick | Draft and split matter more than spray |
| Jewelry / small UV | Fine logo, bubble-sensitive | Vacuum the *mold* pour; your pressure pot is for the dump |
| Large art block | Wet head, sag | Mother mold; do not skip jacket |

Food, soap, and wax are other pages. A resin skin that already dumped epoxy is retired from chocolate. Two cabinets.

Undercuts: Mold Structure Decision before Shore
RUUIPON Mold Structure Decision:
- Flat back → open-back tray or block with a scrape plane.
- Deep undercuts that still peel → glove / open-back skin, often 10A–20A, high tear.
- If they will not peel → two-part, plug, or core, with registration keys on the jacket.
- Large wet casting → mother mold so sag stays out of the 0.5–1.5 mm band.
Raising Shore to "hold undercuts" on a one-piece mascot is how arms tear off at the armpit. We would not recommend that as the first lever. Split the tool, or plug the arm.
Symptom: figurine locks at the wrist; buyer asks for more mold release and harder rubber. Cause: negative draft, not a lubricant shortage. Confirm: a section view — can a peel vector leave that wrist without tearing the 15A skin? Fix: keyed two-part or a removable core. $50 CAD when we still have to model that shut. Then lock. Then the 3–7 business day pour.
Keys that crush into the next cavity in storage will print bumps into every PU chest logo. Store splits with keys outboard.
ISO 3302-1 M2 on the 2D is a rubber class for the dump. Resin shrink of *your* pour is a different number — don't write "precision silicone" and skip both.
Master, box, A/B, vacuum — resin-tool sequence
- Master: CNC, sealed SLA (wash, UV, barrier), or a finished sample. Raw photopolymer inhibits platinum.
- Mold box sets wall and pour head.
- Platinum 1:1 or 10:1 by weight, vacuum degas. Tin only if you named a craft reason (dirty master forgiveness) and accepted storage shrink.
- Detail coat if the RFQ needs it, then pour.
- Jacket / mother mold for gloves and large wet dumps.
- Witness cast in *your* resin, not in ours, unless the PO bought a test pour.
Platinum shrink about 0.1–0.3%. Paying tooling does not mean unrestricted ownership of the master or an infinite recast if archive was never written.
The photo that would prove a good resin tool RFQ: sectioned CAD with peel vector, key layout on the jacket, and a sealed master — next to a one-piece undercut screenshot we refused. Not a sparkly finished-casting hero.

Typical shop values

| Item | Typical shop value |
|---|---|
| Cavity Shore | 10A–20A gloves; firmer trays if the dump is shallow |
| Mix | 1:1 or 10:1 by weight, vacuum |
| Platinum shrink | about 0.1–0.3% |
| Jacket | yes on gloves and large wet dumps |
| Prototype | 3–7 business days after CAD lock |
| Production | MOQ 20 pieces per design |
| Simple 3D | USD $50 when that CAD scope applies |
| Food path | not this SKU — recast a dedicated food skin if you also need chocolate |
Worked example (anonymized)
A 120 mm dragon, arms folded, buyer-printed SLA, PU dump, "one-piece glove please." Print was sealed; platinum would have copied the lock. We ran Structure Decision: arms would not peel. $50 CAD to add a shut through the armpits and keys on a printed jacket, lock, 3–7 business days, glove + jacket + two-part outer. First PU witness released with a named vendor release, no kitchen spray. MOQ 20. The original "one-piece" request stayed on the quote as declined. Tooling charge covered that locked structure, not a right to switch the same skin into soap.
One procurement mix-up
Ordering a "custom silicone resin mold" from a food-gummy photo pack and expecting 177.2600. Resin tools are craft cabinets. A second mix-up is sending FDM layer lines and calling them "CNC precision." We will copy the lines unless you pay to finish the master.
We would not recommend
We would not recommend a one-piece glove on folded arms.
We would not recommend acetone floods between PU pours as a default — swell and haze first, then a cloudy tool.
We would not recommend tin-cure for a dimension-critical resin master that has to sit six months.
We would not recommend using the resin skin later for chocolate.

- Epoxy, PU, UV, or mixed — peak exotherm if you know it?
- One-piece vs split vs core — who decides, and is the $50 CAD in play?
- Jacket included, or only the floppy skin?
- Platinum vs tin, named, with storage in mind?
- Who owns the master after the job, and is recast written?
- MOQ 20 per design after witness?

FAQ
Can I pour epoxy in a mold you built for chocolate if I wash it? No. Retire food cavities after resin. Recast a craft skin from a master that never lived in the food room — or the reverse.
Do you need my resin brand, or is "epoxy" enough? Brand and peak temp help us talk stick, exotherm, and whether a named release belongs on the traveler. "Epoxy" alone gets a conservative structure, not a miracle Shore.
Will a pressure pot replace a jacket? No. A pot can shrink bubbles in *your* dump. The jacket stops the 10A skin from ballooning under a wet head.
Is MOQ 20 the number of resin parts I can cast? No. MOQ 20 is how many *molds* we pour per design. Cast count is your dump log.
Can you injection-mold the figurine in LSR instead? That is a part quote at wydsilicone.com, heated cavity, usually cold-runner — not this RTV tool.
