Emboss Versus Recess Logos in an RTV Mold | RUUIPON
Raised in the dump means sunk in the cavity. Recessed in the dump means raised on the master. Lock which way before CAD freeze; serifs still need

“Emboss the logo in the silicone mold” is ambiguous until you name the dump. Raised on the chocolate, soap, or resin (sunk in the RTV well) reads well and takes abrasion; it also grabs a 10A–20A lip if the letter undercuts. Recessed on the dump (raised on the master) hides knife wash and is the usual food-bar start; it starves first as strokes get small. Pick one on the 2D. Mixing “molded-in look, we will print if it is hard” is how you pay for both.

RUUIPON locks outlined vectors, raised or recessed on the finished dump, off the parting, then pours platinum. Bao'an since 2018. Prototype 3–7 business days after CAD lock. MOQ 20 pieces per design. USD $50 when we must model the mark from art. Logo-on-LSR *parts* (steel, raised/sunk on a keypad) go to wydsilicone.com.
Does not apply when the mark is ink, pad-print, or a carton PNG, when you want a 0.1 mm hairline “emboss,” or when the file is a 12-pixel photo of a competitor bar. We will not guess which way that photo was lit.
Raised dump vs recessed dump — what actually fails
Raised in the dump (cavity is a trench). Fill: couverture and thin resin like it; thick pectin and CP soap can starve a trench that is deeper than it is wide. Peel: the rubber forms a thin wall around the letter. Closed counters (A, B, 8) need a land. Knife-edge counters tear. Wear: the raised dump takes the scrape; the well can still be sharp.
Recessed in the dump (master has the trench; cavity has a raised letter). Fill: easier for viscous dumps; the mark can wash after temper or a wet scrape if too shallow. Peel: the raised rubber letter can hook if it has negative draft. Wear: knives hit the raised rubber; dishwashers round it.
False emboss: texture only. A sandblasted “logo” with no millimetre relief will not read in chocolate. Say depth.
Start band on many 15–30 g food bars: about 0.3–0.6 mm relief, stroke conversation near 0.3 mm. Dump family moves it. ISO 3302-1 M2 does not pick raised vs recessed.
Structure Decision still applies: if a letter is a hook across the peel vector, split or plug; do not “just emboss softer.”
The photo that would prove the call: sectioned dump next to the empty well, caliper on relief, raised-or-recessed labeled on a card.

Worked example (anonymized)
A 12 g bar, buyer said “emboss like the competitor.” Competitor was recessed in the chocolate (raised rubber). Buyer’s Photoshop layer looked raised. First CAD we asked them to mark. They picked raised dump, 0.5 mm, 0.18 mm serifs. Witness starved serifs and tore a closed A. Recast: recessed dump, 0.4 mm, 0.35 mm stroke. $50 because the PNG had to become vectors with a direction named. Lock, 3–7 business days. Second witness read. MOQ 20. Shore never changed.

Ice, soap, and resin do not share a chocolate direction
Ice is read as it melts. A shallow recessed mark vanishes first; a raised ice logo takes more melt time before the brand disappears, and it is also a chip risk in the freezer. Say which you want on ice — this is not the chocolate default.
CP soap is viscous and alkaline. Raised dumps (trenches in the rubber) starve; recessed dumps fill better and then the alkaline dump plus invert can chew a raised rubber letter. We would not copy a chocolate recessed-bar standard onto a loaf soap without a stroke conversation.
UV resin can fill a smaller raised dump if you vent or pressure-cast. The rubber still has to peel the trench. A glossy resin show-face with a raised logo will show every crater in that trench — dump-side bubbles are a different article; do not flip direction to hide pinholes.
Legal marks (®, ™) need width in whichever direction you pick. Hairline ® as a raised dump is a tear; as a recessed dump it washes. Drop them to a print note when they cannot hold the 0.3 mm conversation.
Keep the mark off the parting. A shut that shears letters will be called “the emboss failed.” It was flash. Keys and a land belong on the Structure Decision, not inside the wordmark.
One procurement mix-up
Emboss, deboss, engrave, and “3D logo” are used as synonyms in emails. They are not. Write raised in dump or recessed in dump. Tooling charge ≠ a free flip after you approved the first direction.
First witness still needs a QC-distance photo, not only a cavity macro. Direction that looks bold in the well can disappear on a 12 g bar in the hand.
We would not recommend
We would not recommend flipping raised/recessed after MOQ 20 is poured.
We would not recommend a raised dump on a 10A glove with closed counters and no fillet.
We would not recommend judging direction from a lit Instagram photo.
We would not recommend putting the mark on the parting land.

- Raised or recessed in the dump, in writing?
- Stroke and depth in millimetres, not “embossed”?
- Off the parting?
- Food vs resin — raised chocolate and raised PU peel differently.
- If art cannot survive 0.3 mm, is print OK?

FAQ
Does emboss mean raised chocolate? Only if you said raised in the dump. Many buyers mean the opposite. Write the dump.
Which way lasts longer in a dishwasher? Raised rubber letters round first. Recessed dumps (raised rubber) take that hit. Hand-wash spec if the mark is CTQ.
Can I have both a raised brand and a recessed score line? Yes if both are on the 2D. Two features, two millimetre calls, still one lock.
Will a harder Shore let me raise a tiny serif? It locks the dump more often than it saves the serif. Stroke and fillet first.
If I flip direction after sample, is that $50? USD $50 when CAD scope applies. Flipping raised/recessed is a real model change, then MOQ 20 of the new lock.
