A torn registration key is a recast, not a bathroom-caulk job. Acetoxy (vinegar-cure) caulk inhibits platinum, smells like a tin leftover conversation, and builds a hill that prints flash on the next close. Even a platinum adhesive that can close a *craft* flange nick is the wrong geometry fix for a key: you need a boss and a socket that only assemble one way, filleted, in the same rubber family. We would not caulk a food-cavity key. Glue in a chocolate well is a new article you did not extract. Recast against the unsanded master, same revision, same jacket pockets.

Does not apply when the tear is a jacket-side flange on a *craft* tool and a named platinum adhesive is in play (that's the torn-mold page), when you sliced the key with a knife on purpose, or when the "caulk" is a thixed platinum detail coat on a *new* glove. Don't treat a hardware-store tube as 177.2600.
Why the bead fails on a key
Keys take peel and shear every open. A caulk bead is a smear with no tear rating you can put on a drawing. Acetoxy by-product can leave the nearby platinum tacky. The bead shrinks differently than the skin, so the next close steps and flashes the show face.
Confirm: torn boss still in the jacket pocket, hole in the glove, cavity maybe still perfect. Fix: recast the skin; if keys keep tearing, enlarge fillets or move register into the jacket (pins in the mother, not through a food well).
Food: no caulk, no grease, no tin. Craft: we would not call a caulked key a production register.
ISO 3302-1 M2 is a dump class, not a glue class.

Jacket keys versus rubber pips after a failed bead
If the pip lives in 10A–20A, it will tear again unless you fillet it or move it. After a caulk disaster, the cleanest production answer is: new skin, register in jacket pockets, unique pip that cannot close backwards, pins only in FRP/print, never through a food well. Don't transfer-punch holes from the caulked scrap.
Acetoxy leftover can poison a recast if you pour against the old skin. We pour against the master. Wash the jacket; scrape caulk off *jacket* pockets only, not off a food face.
A 20 g slug on a smear of the tube you used tells you if that chemistry even cures dry next to platinum. If the slug is tacky, that tube is banned from the platinum bench.

Craft-only emergency that we still will not call production: a named platinum adhesive on a *flange*, coupon one dump, recast anyway if the land prints. Keys are not flanges.
Don't stack myths: hairspray on a caulked pip, freezer to pop a flashed dump, powder in the socket. Structure Decision and a recast.

Worked example (anonymized)
Two-part PU bust, operator caulked three torn pips. Next dumps flashed across the chest. We recast skins with larger filleted bosses and jacket pockets, $50 CAD because the pip layout moved, witness close, MOQ 20. Food not on the PO.
Bench SOP if you already caulked
Stop dumping. Don't solvent-soak the bead into a food well. Don't pour new platinum against acetoxy residue. Send photos of the land and the jacket pocket. We recast. Keep the master. Tooling charge on the first skin is not a glue license.
If keys tear because the operator closes 180° off, add a unique pip — caulk will not add uniqueness.
Craft flange nicks away from the register can still be a named platinum adhesive conversation. Keys are register. Different job.
Loaded sag 0.5–1.5 mm is unrelated. Don't caulk a sagging tray lip and call it a key repair.
One procurement mix-up
"Silicone glue is the same chemistry as the mold." Tube caulk is usually acetoxy or oxime, not your 1:1 platinum. Tooling charge is not unrestricted ownership of a caulked shut.

FAQ
Can I use clear bathroom caulk if I wash the well after? No. Acetoxy leftover and a hill remain. Recast. Food wells especially.
