Supplement Gummy Mold Production for Deposit Lines
Supplement gummy production is deposit, set, and dump on a food-contact RTV tray. Cavity fill and piece volume belong to the mold; the formula does not.

If you're running supplement gummies, "mold production" means making and running a food-contact RTV cavity tray on a deposit-set-dump line.

The supplement is mixed, deposited, gelled, dumped, and packed in your hall. We pour platinum RTV against a master, jacket it, post-cure it, and register it to your depositor. Piece-weight control is cavity fill. Hygiene is starch versus silicone, wash, and a real 21 CFR 177.2600 extractives / LFGB article file. This isn't a formulation guide and it isn't a label review.
Two sequences that shouldn't share one sentence
Most supplement gummies are gelatin or pectin deposited hot, then cooled until they dump. The mold has to assume that path: cavities a viscous shot can fill, a tray that stays flat while the gel is weak, a dump the set gel can survive, and rubber that survives the wash you already use.
Shop sequence: finished master, mold box, platinum RTV pour, jacket, trim, post-cure, wash, volume check, pack. Plant sequence: load tray, deposit, cool, dump, wash tray, repeat. If those two get quoted as one "gummy production" line, you'll buy a kitchen tray. An LSR injection tool with a cold-runner is a molded *part* quote and doesn't belong on this PO.
Starch moguls are still common in confection. Supplement halls often skip starch because dust fights weighing rooms. Then you're on reusable trays: platinum RTV for flex dump and custom shapes, PC for simple cups, jacketed hybrids when the depositor wants a stiff envelope.
Fill height, meniscus, underfill
Supplement QC treats mass as a process capability item. On the mold the failures look like underfill (shot too small, cavity too deep and skinny, air at the show face), overfill (bridging, flash, sticky dump), a meniscus that looks short on the scale even when the grams were right, and inclusions hanging in a logo trench that dump as a "missing logo."
Geometry first: open the mouth, radius the logo, give the shot a path into ears, match volume across the array. Depositor tuning is second. A 40-cavity tray with one starved pocket is a master problem if that cavity is small in the pattern; it's a nozzle problem if all cavities are equal and one lane is short. Don't "solve" fill by spraying oil until the room smells.
Common mix-up: producing the mold is producing the gummies
A lot of RFQs treat supplement gummy mold production as making the candy. In the shop that usually means you've mixed formula, 21 CFR 111, and a master into one email. We produce trays. You deposit, set, dump, and pack. If you ask us to make sure each gummy has 500 mg, we'll refuse the milligram and offer milliliters.
Candy kitchens optimize count per kilo. Supplement plants optimize piece-weight range tied to a labeled serving (the serving is yours; the cavity is milliliters), allergen dedication, documented wash, and traceability of the tray as equipment. We can lot plates, keep food-contact reports on *this* construction, and plan spares. We can't write your 21 CFR 111 program or check a Supplement Facts panel.
Family tools: RTV faces in one jacket at the same pitch and volume; separate color-coded trays; a one-up library for R&D. Keep dump motion the same across the family if the station isn't programmable. Color changes and dual-pour backs need identity on the report.
Traceability of the tray as an article
You'll usually ask for platinum RTV grade, Shore, color, post-cure recipe scaled to thickness, 21 CFR 177.2600 extractives and/or LFGB/BfR XV on the article, first-article pitch/volume/flash/flatness, and master/jacket/tray revision. ISO 10993 and USP Class VI aren't substitutes. ASTM D624 tear and ASTM D395 set screen dump and wash; they don't replace flasks. Tin-cure beads on a repair break article identity — recast the face.
A kickoff that works is one page on both POs: deposit temperature (plant), dump method (station), wash (rack recipe), cavity volume (ml). Inclusions: tell us bead size as a dump and wear note, don't ask us to source the bead. An oily droplet needs dump on that batch; a dry gelatin one-up lied. Spare math: washer holds twelve, belt needs eight, you order twenty. Color chips on a non-food edge beat Sharpie in a cavity.
What to ask when you're buying production trays
- Shop PO for trays vs plant PO for slurry — are they split?
- Target milliliters, fill height, gelatin vs pectin (and the stickier dump case)?
- Array, pitch, dump motion, spare count vs washer takt?
- Shore, jacket, post-cure, 177.2600 extractives / LFGB on this construction?
- Who owns the master, and is recast scheduled when a tear hits a logo?
- Inclusion size as a fill/dump note, not as a formula?
Example
A representative supplement array is a 4×10 platinum RTV tray, 40 cavities at 2.2 ml, 10 mm fill height, Shore 20A face in a resin jacket, with two spares so wash is parallel. Recast is against the same CNC master when a tear reaches a logo, not when the tray first looks tired.
When this production article is the wrong PO
If you need a co-packer to *make the gummies*, that's a different vendor class — we produce trays. If you want us to write 21 CFR 111 or check a Supplement Facts panel, stop; that's plant QA. If starch dust is allowed and throughput is the business, a mogul may beat a reusable RTV fleet. LSR plate-pressing of silicone *parts* is a separate quote.

FAQ
Is supplement gummy mold production the same as making the gummies? No. We produce trays. You deposit, set, dump, and pack. RFQs that mix formula and masters waste a week. Send slurry behavior as fill/dump constraints only.
Can pectin and gelatin share one production tray? Often yes if volume and dump work for the worse case (usually the weaker or stickier gel). Prove both on a sample cavity. Don't assume chocolate-style polish fixes pectin skin.
How do we document trays for a supplement audit? Lot the trays, keep the food-contact report on that construction, keep first-article pitch and volume. We can provide that file. It can't stand in for your 21 CFR 111 program.
Should we run starch for supplements to raise throughput? Mogul throughput is real. So is starch dust. If QA forbids starch, RTV or plastic trays at depositor pitch are the path. Don't sneak starch "just for R&D" into a dedicated hall without QA.
What breaks article identity after months of production? A color change, a skipped post-cure on a recast, a tin-cure repair, or testing a spatula instead of the tray. Recast and re-identify. Don't patch a food-contact file with a craft kit.
